Linux – Installation

The training course is intended for computer system administrators who are beginning to work with or are switching over to the LINUX operating system. You will learn the installation and common tasks associated with its system administration and management

Trainees will learn to install CentOS and the common tasks associated with this system administration (disk installation and administration, user account administration, working with files, administration of installed packages, basic CentOS configuration).

A basic knowledge of PC architecture and knowledge of OS operation and administration on the PC platform.

• Standardization of POSIX, Single Unix Specification - SUS, Linux Standard Base - LSB

• Alternatives to Linux, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, OpenSolaris and other systems
• Source of information and documentation
• Summary of Linux distribution and properties (RedHat, Debian, SUSE, Ubuntu, Mandriva, and others)

CentOS

• RedHat, Fedora, RHEL operating systems
• CentOS community system
• Distribution development cycle, CentOS support
• Installation options and types
• Installation medium review

Step-by-step CentOS installation

• Starting installation
• Hard disk partitioning, basic information about disk equipment in Linux, software RAID, LVM, file systems used (ext2, ext3, ext4, ReiserFS, JFS, XFS, etc.)
• Selecting installed packages
• Other installation procedure options and choices

Basic Administration and Management

• Directory structure overview, FHS
• Text and graphics mode, system login, basic system overview and review
• Midnight Commander, the basic tool for working with system files
• User account administration
• Files, ownership, access rights
• File systems, creating, checking and correcting, working with file systems
• Package administration, RPM Package Manager, YUM tool, repositories, updating, etc.
