Introduction

  • What it is FreeBSD operating system, Brief history of UNIX and BSD UNIX systems (OpenBSD, NetBSD)
  • Why just to use FreeBSD. FreeBSD and other operating system on PC computer
  • Properties, philosophy and possibilities of practice usage of FreeBSD
  • Requirements for PC technical equipment for FreeBSD running
  • Software equipment, gettable software for FreeBSD. Free software, GNU and GPL license, BSD license conditions
  • Information sources about FreeBSD in electronic and print form

    Preparation before FreeBSD installation

  • Necessary information about PC hardware (motherboard, hard disc control unit, monitor, net card, modem, etc.), choice of suitable PC hardware for FreeBSD
  • Possibilities of FreeBSD installation - local installation, net installation
  • Coexistence of LINUX and other operating system on one PC
  • Structure and description of FreeBSD installation CD
